Excerpt from “Worst First Dates and The Lessons Learned”:

Phyllis, 43; Baltimore, Maryland
Phyllis and the Seeing-eye Date
   About twenty-five years ago, Phyllis went on a blind date which was set up by a friend of hers. Nearsighted Phyllis decided to wear her contact lenses instead of her glasses that night.
   Because I was her only black female friend and my date was her only black male friend, our mutual friend apparently thought it would be a good match. It turned out to be a true blind date.
   We decided to meet at a museum in Washington D.C. I remember my contact lenses were killing me. But I went anyway. I took the train from Baltimore to D.C.
   As the date wore on, my eyes became dry as my contacts became more and more soiled and my vision became even worse. Before I knew it, I could not see where I was going and had to rely on my date to guide me around. I didn’t have a carrying case to put my lenses and would not have been able to take them out anyway because I didn’t have my glasses. I couldn’t even see well enough to go home by myself. He had to bring me home. That was the end of the relationship. I could see we were not going very far – literally.
Lesson(s) Learned: Be prepared whenever going into uncharted territory. Make sure you have a backup in case of an emergency. Keep all bases covered and have an escape plan without being an expense or hardship on yourself or anyone else.
